Moreton's Bar & Restaurant in St Heliers

Although my comments on this restaurant may seem critical, in fact the real fault lies in the mistakes made by me when ordering.  It seemed like a good idea at the time to order a number of small dishes off the section of the menu headed “tapas” but in fact all bar one of them turned out to be very greasy bar snacks.

One was good – the scallops wrapped in bacon.  The potato wedges were frankly appalling – a very large bowl but 75% of it was a gooey coagulated mass – quite impossible to eat with your fingers and almost impossible with a knife and fork – no serving implements were provided for this or any of the other dishes despite them needing it.

The garlic bread was tasty but dripping in so much butter that your hands got all slippery trying to eat a slice.

The staff were friendly and efficient but you really shouldn’t have to ask for more napkins to mop up pools of grease.
This was our second visit but I don’t think I will risk a third.  A shame because it has a nice setting.  If you do give it a go, order off the other parts of the menu!

If you click the names below you will see what I have said about some other restaurants in Auckland.
