Market Kitchen and Bar

By chance we ended up having lunch on a Friday at Market Kitchen and Bar at the bottom end of Carlton Gore Road in Newmarket.

It has recently been voted the People’s Choice Restaurant for NZ – but although it is good I can’t imagine what poll would put it best – ahead of say wonderful restaurants like the French Café.

It is more of a local restaurant – a bit like the Tardis in that it appears small but actually has quite a number of different dining areas as well as a bar.  The décor is very pleasant.

The service very friendly and relaxed – my only slight whinge would be that we were asked by 3 different people whether our food was ok.

The chicken liver parfait I had was simply divine.  The better half’s market fish – pan roasted snapper was reported to be good but not earth shattering.  The side of hand cut fries were very good indeed but I would have liked the option of aioli with them rather than just good old tomato sauce.  The special side of roasted beetroot with blue cheese cubes and orange segments actually tasted a bit odd – it might have been better served cold.

I would be very happy to go to this restaurant again.

If you click the names below you will see what I have said about some other restaurants in Auckland.
