The Real Food of China by Leanne Kitchen and Antony Suvalko

This book is more than a superb cookbook.  It is a treasure full not only of insights into Chinese cuisines and many great recipes but also of great photographs of China generally as well as of the food.

It's a monster of a book – the pages are larger than A4 and there are over 400 of them!

If you are interested in finding out a bit more about Chinese food, this is a great place to start.  It focuses mostly on dishes that can be made at home with relatively common ingredients.

Dishes I am hoping to give a try from this lovely book include: cold spicy Sichuan chicken, Sichuan radish salad, crisp fried tofu squares, pumpkin & scallop soup, soy sauce prawns, sticky pork in bean sauce with pancakes and honeydew melon sago pudding.

I couldn't find out much about the authors of the book.  I think Leanne Kitchen is Australian (or maybe a New Zealander)  and a former professional chef.  I wondered if her name was real but saw from an article that she married a guy with Kitchen as a surname – which is quite funny really.
