There is one thing about Chateau of Secrets that would normally put me right off reading it – it moves between 2 time periods. But I am glad that Barbara from Stray Thoughts linked her review of it in to Books You Loved.
What I liked:
· The setting for most of the book is in Normandy near St-Lo – a lovely part of the world
· Both story lines were interesting and sufficieintly interrelated
· The impact of the German occupation on France is dealt with well.
· The book is very readable – clear simple prose, not heavily laden with description
Overall, the book was very convincing – the only slightly jarring detail was when one of the contemporary people went to eat at a small local bistro and were brought San Pellegrino water! Italian water in France, Sacré Bleu!
