Your Favourite: Travel Books

Two months has sped by since the last themed book link up.  The last one was about Romances.  For a change of pace this time we are going to build a "library" of travel books – not just very good travel guides but books like A Year in Provence.  Most of us enjoy a bit of armchair travel and I'm really looking forward to working my way through the library of your favourite travel books.

Adding to the collection is easy.  Just put your name and the name of the travel book into the first Mr Linky box and paste the url for your post about the book into the second.

To help you choose which other links to check out, you can go to this Pinboard I have made up for the links.  I'll be pinning them as fast as real life allows me to.

  6. I love this theme for a link up because often I enjoy a book because of where its based and find it really interesting finding out about different countrys in a novel, its less serious than an actual travel book. Iv linked up Little Coffee Shop Of Kabul based in Afghanistan really interesting story about culture and the country.

  11. I linked up a handful -- memoirs that are strongly influenced by place, a novel that was atmospheric, and two collections of short stories that are almost like travel guides, they're so good at conveying place!

  12. Great topic for a collection, thank you for hosting!

"Terra Incognita" is not just one of my favourite travel reads but one of my favourite reads, although I'm almost certain I'll never get to experience the subject destination first hand!

  15. I just have to add more than one book here:

Take me with you by Brad Newsham is a travel book with a twist.

The Collector of Worlds by Ilija Trojanow is telling the story of a real life adventurer who travelled to parts of this world that are not very accessible to us even today.

And I couldn't leave a recommendation for a travel book without mentioning on of my favourite authors, Bill Bryson. Notes from a Small Island is one of his best as he is telling the story of his host country that he loves as much as I do: Britain

  16. My wife really loves armchair travel books. I recently bought her “One American Woman Fifty Italian Men” by Lynne Ashdown, http://lynneashdown.com/. She loved it so much she could hardly put it down. Thanks for the post and for some other book ideas.
