Food on Friday: Rhubarb

ON

When I was a child the things we had growing in the garden included silverbeet, rhubarb, feijoas and guavas.  So we ate today's ingredient for Food on Friday - Rhubarb – quite often.

Rhubarb goes with:

Almonds
Apples
Blueberries
Butter
Cinnamon
Ginger
Hazelnuts
Honey
Pastry
Plums
Pork
Raspberries
Rosewater
Salmon
Soft white cheeses
Strawberries
Sugar
Trout
Vanilla
Yoghurt

I am looking forward to seeing how you use rhubarb in your dishes.  Please just link them up via Mr Linky below.  The best thing is to put your name plus the name of the dish in the first box and copy the url for your post into the second.

Have fun!

  2. Mmm, I love Rhubarb! I grew up just dipping it in sugar and eating raw. So yummy!! Now I turn it into strawberry rhubarb pie and strawberry rhubarb jam.

  6. Rhubarb recipes I can do! Well, my blog isn't called Jenny Eatwell's Rhubarb & Ginger for nothing. :D I've brought a selection of savoury and sweet recipes, plus a chutney and a jam. :) I've just made a Rhubarb & Ginger Pie that was rather luscious too - so watch out on the blog for it appearing very soon. :)

    1. That is a good question which I have thought about a lot. Because this is a themed link up and sometimes gets lots of links, thumbnails would make it very slow to load. I do pin the dishes to a special Pinboard as soon as I can and you can always look at them there - see the sidebar at the top for links to some of my pinboards and you can look for the board from there. thanks for raising this.

  20. Hi Carole! I've posted a buttermilk pudding with rhubarb and strawberry compote, looks like rhubarb + strawberries are a popular combination here!

Just one other thing, are you able to add a Name/URL commenting option? The only option I can really use here is the wordpress one, but that assumes that you have a wordpress.com domain.

  21. You are a mind reader, Carole. I was just thinking about rhubarb, which will be late here in northern Wisconsin this year, I would bet. We have two patches, and we always freeze a few bags for winter use.

  23. Rhubarb has always been one of my favorite fruits (- or vegetable to be precise). I love it's sharpness - not too sweet and was searching for it this spring, just waiting to see it for sale! I'm so glad it is now the season! And now I can check out all the recipes here too. Thanks Carole

  25. I adore cooking with rhubarb as its tanginess is brilliant in so many combinations. My post is on a coconut and rhubarb upside down cake that uses coconut flour to make it a gluten free dessert.
We're just in the process of building a new big veg patch and I can't wait to start growing some fresh rhubarb in my garden! I also love the idea of this post as It's been lovely to read some wonderful other rhubarb recipes. Katie x

  26. I love rhubarb...sadly, mine did not come up this year. I think our dry summer last year killed it off. But I look forward to buying it at the farmer's market this summer! I have linked up a really cool Jamie Oliver rhubarb & custard souffle recipe that was a big hit when I made it.
