Around
the same time as Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci, an Italian called Raphael
started painting. He was determined to learn
everything he could from them.
He
succeeded in becoming one of the most famous portrait painters of all
time.

He
decorated some rooms in the Vatican at the same time as Michelango was just
starting work on the Sistine Chapel.

He
didn't base some of his greatest pictures on any particular model but developed
in his own mind a picture of what beauty was.
Unfortunately
for art, Raphael died on his 37th birthday. Gone much too soon.
